If your card reader isn’t able to connect to Wi-Fi,
make sure your connection meets the following requirements:
Troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity
- Your Stripe terminal is turned on and charged.
- Both the terminal and the computer you're using to connect the terminal are on the same network. To check which network your terminal is using, swipe left to right and tap Settings. When prompted, enter the admin PIN, 07139 and tap Wi-Fi Settings.
- Your DNS settings are configured correctly.

Troubleshooting DNS settings
Updating DNS Settings on Mac
- Begin by opening your System Preferences on your Mac.
- Click on Network, and then click on the Advanced tab.
- If your network settings are locked, click on the lock icon and enter your password to make changes. Then, click on DNS.
- Click on the Add (+) icon to add new IP addresses.
- Enter the following IP addresses in the given field:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1 - Click on OK to save your new settings.
- Finally, click on Apply to make the changes to your DNS settings
Once you've updated your DNS settings, it's important to sign out of your Stripe dashboard and then sign back in. After signing in, follow the instructions to set up your Stripe Terminal. These steps should help you troubleshoot any DNS issues you're experiencing with Stripe Terminal.
Updating DNS Settings on Windows
- Start by clicking on Start and navigating to System Settings,
then Network & Internet, and finally Change adapter options. - Right-click on your network connection (usually Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Click on Properties. If your network settings are locked, you may need to enter
your password to make changes. - Click on Networking.
- Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Click on Advanced and then DNS.
- Remove any IP addresses from the DNS server address box and click OK.
- Click on Use the following DNS server addresses and enter 8.8.8.8 for the preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 for the alternate DNS server.
- Click OK.
